Mobile marketing offers excellent opportunities for small business owners to connect with their customers. But in order for that relationship to happen the customer must first successfully opt-in to your mobile list. Therefore it makes good business sense to make it very easy for your prospect or customer to join your mobile list.
One of the most important ways to make certain that it’s simple is to clearly spell out what your customer needs to do.
Quizno’s has done exactly that with a two-sided business card. These cards are distributed POS at the register and at other visible spots throughout its store. What’s really noteworthy are the two things Quinzo’s did on the backside of the card: one very smart but on the second the jury is still out for deliberation.
I.) Smart: they literally spelled out step by step what the customer needed to do. “Open a new text message. Enter 80565 in the phone number space. Type the word qclub and your email address in the body of the message and hit send.” Quino’s did not “assume” that everyone automatically knows how to opt-in to a mobile list or even that they are experts at sending text messages.
II) Jury still deliberating: besides sending in the short code to opt-in Quizno’s has also asked customers at the same time to send them their email address.
What do you think about this tactic of asking for an email address along with the mobile opt-in ? Good idea or bad idea ?
